De televisiezender FOX viert zondag het 25-jarig jubileum van The Simpsons. Dit jaar is het precies 25 jaar geleden dat de allereerste aflevering van de populaire animatieserie werd uitgezonden. Tussen 9.45 uur en 20.00 uur zendt FOX daarom 25 afleveringen van The Simpsons uit in een speciale marathonuitzending.
‘The Simpsons’ vertelt het verhaal van een alledaags Amerikaans gezin bestaande uit vader Homer, moeder Marge, zoon Bart en dochters Lisa en Maggie. In hun kleine dorpje Springfield raken ze telkens verzeild in vreemde avonturen.
De veelgeprezen serie ontving onder meer een Peabody Award, 28 Emmy Awards en 29 Annie Awards. Daarnaast heeft de animatiefamilie een eigen ster op de Hollywood Walk Of Fame. Het is de langstlopende comedy-serie ter wereld en ook in Nederland nog steeds bekend.
Op 17 december 1989 werd in de Verenigde Staten de allereerste aflevering van The Simpsons uitgezonden. Televisiezender FOX staat echter dit weekend al stil bij het jubileum van de animatieserie.
