Clear Channel Communications ontkent dat er een lijst met platen zou bestaan die de zenders van het concern beter niet kunnen draaien. Volgens Clear Channel zijn alle radiostations “zelfstandig en lokaal genoeg” om zelf te bepalen welke platen wel en niet kunnen, na de aanslagen in de Verenigde Staten.
Hiermee spreken ze eerdere berichten tegen, die meldden dat er een lijst van 150 verboden platen zou bestaan met daarop nummers als ‘Up the Outside World’ van Soundgarden, ‘You Dropped A Bomb On Me’ van Gap Band, ‘Crash and Burn’ van Savage Garden ‘Ruby Tuesday’ van Rolling Stones, ‘I’m On Fire’ van Bruce Springsteen en ‘Learn to Fly’ van Foo Fighters
Volgens onze verslaggever in Los Angeles was er alleen een lijst gemaakt die onder diverse programmaleiders circuleerde met een aanbeveling om sommige platen niet te draaien. Deze lijst heeft is per Email verspreid om andere stations te helpen en is zo de hele wereld rond gegaan. De verboden lijst komt dus niet van Clear Channel zelf dat alleen al in Amerika 1213 radiostations heeft en nog eens 240 stations buiten de Verenigde Staten.
“De programmaleiders van de stations mogen zelf bepalen wat wel en niet op de playlist komt omdat zei de lokale situatie kennen en ook hun luisteraars”, aldus Mark P. Mays, President en Chief Operating Officer van Clear Channel. “Ons bedrijf bemoeit zich absoluut niet met de bedrijfsvoering en al helemaal niet over de muziek en dat is nu niet anders.
